The story behind Detective James Gordon's rise to prominence in Gotham City in the years before Batman's arrival.

'Gotham' darà molte soddisfazioni ai fan di Batman nella sua quinta e ultima stagione.
In aggiunta a un Jeremiah (Cameron Monaghan) sempre più simile a Joker e a una Selina (Camren Bicondova) diventata in tutto e per tutto Catwoman, si possono ammirare nella loro intera gloria Harley Quinn (Francesca Root-Dodson) e Bane (Shane West). Bane in particolare, che inizieremo a conoscere come 'Eduardo Dorrance', sarà una presenza prominente in una Gotham City ormai ostaggio della criminalità. Tuttavia, Jim (Ben McKenzie) capirà ben presto che le sue reali intenzioni sono di gran lunga più oscure di quanto ha voluto fargli credere. Alla vigilia della guerra di Secessione, la famiglia Macahan vive del lavoro nei campi presso la propria fattoria in Virginia: Timothy

Macahan, sua moglie Kate e i quattro figli Luke, Lara, Josh e Jessie. Il ritorno a casa dopo diversi anni del fratello di Timothy,

Zebulon "Zeb" Macahan, cacciatore, scout dell'esercito e avventuriero del West, fa rinascere in quest'ultimo il desiderio di mettersi

in viaggio e andare a fare il pioniere in Oregon, sogno giovanile accantonato con il matrimonio. Il fascino e la suggestione

dell'avventura, unitamente all'incombere della guerra, spingono tutta la famiglia a decidere di partire per l'Ovest, potendo contare

sulla guida e l'esperienza di Zeb.

Quando i Macahan hanno già raggiunto i territori del Nebraska vengono a sapere da una pattuglia dell'esercito che il conflitto è

scoppiato con gravi scontri a Bull Run, la contea da cui provenivano, e Timothy, preoccupato per i vecchi genitori che non

avevano voluto lasciare la loro terra, decide di tornare indietro. Sua moglie Kate e gli altri decidono di fermarsi lungo il fiume

Platte, per aspettarne il ritorno, ma dopo un lungo periodo senza notizie, anche Luke decide di partire alla ricerca del padre: finirà

arruolato dai nordisti con la forza e portato a combattere nella battaglia di Shiloh, ove, ferito in un accampamento, rivedrà il padre

morente. Disgustato dalla guerra, Luke diserta, ruba un cavallo, scampa ad un linciaggio di sudisti sparando ad uno sceriffo e

fugge verso il resto della famiglia, iniziando così la sua interminabile serie di guai con la legge.

Chi era Santa Barbara?

Santa Barbara è una martire cristiana. Il luogo e l epoca in cui è vissuta, non sono chiaramente identificabili, ma il suo culto è attestato presso le comunità cristiane d Oriente (Egitto, Costantinopoli) e Occidente (Roma, Francia) sin dal VI-VII secolo e conobbe una grande popolarità nel Medioevo. Rimane una santa molto popolare grazie al numero dei suoi patronati (vigili del fuoco, marina militare, artificieri, artiglieri, genieri, minatori, architetti, ecc.).

Trama

Il film racconta la storia di santa Barbara, martire cristiana della Chiesa cattolica.

Dioscuro, governatore di Scandriglia, è disposto a qualsiasi cosa pur di arrivare al governo di Roma. Barbara sua figlia, invece è disinteressata a tutto ciò e prosegue i suoi studi di astronomia da Policarpo e insieme ai suoi amici: Giuliana, Tito, Crio e il soldato Claudio. Con loro inizierà un percorso spirituale che le cambierà totalmente la vita, segnata anche dalla morte della madre, facendo della fede cristiana la sua ragion d'essere. Tutto ciò la porterà a scontrarsi con il governo, tra cui il prefetto Marciano e soprattutto con il padre che non condivide la sua scelta e che per lei non aveva predetto certo questo futuro.
