Visto l'errore giudiziario e la pena ingiusta da lui subita, viene ricompensato dallo stato con un indennizzo economico pari a oltre cinquanta milioni di dollari e secondo sua esplicita richiesta, con la restituzione del suo vecchio posto di lavoro, con tanto di promozione: il detective.
Promosso quindi a Detective si aggira per Los Angeles un po' spaesato, un po' stralunato, condizione accettata più o meno di buon grado dalle persone che lo circondano vista l'esperienza traumatica da lui ingiustamente vissuta. Oltre a risolvere i normali casi, parallelamente indaga sulla vicenda che l'ha visto protagonista, suo malgrado, cercando ufficiosamente vittime e carnefici, chi lo ha incastrato e perché. Per farlo ha sistemato in una stanza della sua casa un enorme schema con foto, collegamenti e dossier per averne una più immediata comprensione; stesso metodo utilizzato da Michael Scofield in Prison Break per memorizzare le fasi e le modalità della sua futura evasione.
Ad accompagnarlo c'è la sua collega, Dani Reese, persona dal carattere scontroso ed impossibile con alle spalle problemi disciplinari; Ted Earley, conosciuto in galera (a causa di una frode) che è il suo migliore amico, nonché coinquilino, nonché gestore del suo immenso patrimonio; e Constance Griffiths, l'intraprendente avvocatessa che ha seguito il suo caso, che lo ha riscattato e che gli ha reso una nuova vita, life appunto.

Odd Thomas lavora presso la tavola calda di Pico Mundo, cittadina della California meridionale situata nel deserto del Mojave. Sembrerebbe un ragazzo come tanti altri, ma Odd ha un dono speciale; può percepire la presenza dei defunti con qualcosa di sospeso e non solo. I defunti gli appaiono per aiutarlo a risolvere i crimini di cui sono stati vittime ed aiutarlo per prevenire future carneficine. Un giorno nella tavola calda appare un misterioso uomo, che Odd soprannomina "Fungus Man" (a causa della sua carnagione che ricorda la muffa e del suo bizzarro taglio di capelli), seguito da un grande sciame di bodachs, creature oscure che appaiono solamente durante i periodi antecedenti a morti e carneficine. Grazie al suo dono soprannaturale, Odd intuisce che il misterioso uomo è collegato da un'imminente catastrofe che sta per abbattersi sulla città. Odd avrà solo 24 ore di tempo per sventarla.....

[left]Dicte is a dedicated reporter and refuses to give up before she has her story. Her stubbornes gives her problems immediately with the policeman John Wagner, and they often get into clashes with each other.

Delitti d'amore, episodi di violenza su donne e minori, omicidi politici, ogni genere di caso di cronaca possibile, l'agente Dicte ha sempre lavorato con ogni mezzo che avesse a disposizione per cercare di ottenere giustizia per le vittime e le loro famiglie.

I nuovi episodi si aprono, però, con una lieta notizia. Dicte è finalmente convolata a nozze con il suo amato Bo. Sfortunatamente, subito dopo la cerimonia, all'uomo viene affidata una difficile missione che lo porterà fino in Libano. Lì verrà rapito dalle forze estremiste e tenuto in ostaggio.

Questa volta Dicte è costretta a combattere con per una ragione ancora più forte.[/left]
