Ambientato nel New England intorno al 1630, THE WITCH segue un contadino cacciato dalla sua piantagione coloniale e costretto a spostare la sua famiglia in un remoto appezzamento di terreno ai margini di un inquietante bosco che si dice sia popolato da streghe. Quasi immediatamente cose strane e inquietanti iniziano ad accadere, gli animali muoiono in modo violento, le colture marciscono e uno dei bambini scompare, solo per tornare apparentemente posseduto da uno spirito maligno.

Plot :

An amiable garage mechanic, Ed Walters (Tim Robbins), meets Catherine Boyd (Meg Ryan), a brilliant Princeton University mathematics doctoral candidate, as she comes into the garage, accompanied by her stiff and fussy English fiancé, experimental psychology professor James Moreland (Stephen Fry). There is an immediate connection, but she refuses to acknowledge it. Finding a watch she left at the garage, Ed travels to her address and finds himself face to face with Albert Einstein (Walter Matthau), who is Catherine's uncle.
Albert—portrayed as a fun-loving genius—and his mischievous friends, fellow scientists Nathan Liebknecht (Joseph Maher), Kurt Gödel (Lou Jacobi), and Boris Podolsky (Gene Saks), see Ed as someone who would be better suited for Catherine. The four of them try to help Ed look and sound like a scientist (i.e., a "wunderkind" in physics), while at the same time trying to convince Catherine that life is not all about the mind, but is also about the heart. Einstein sees bringing Ed and Catherine together as his most enduring legacy to his niece, because he realizes that he won't be available to help her for very much longer.
Catherine eventually sees through the ruse, but falls for Ed anyway. A smiling Albert Einstein uses a small telescope to spy happily on the two young moonstruck lovers as they take delight in each other's company.

Trama :

A metà degli anni '50, Einstein studia, ricerca e insegna nell'università di Princeton. Catherine è la sua intelligentissima nipote che è fidanzata con uno psicologo del quale lo zio non ha molta stima dal punto di vista dei sentimenti. Convinto che sua nipote debba trovare di meglio, individua il principe azzurro in Ed, un meccanico della vicina officina. Per far sì che Catherine si accorga di lui, Einstein e il suo gruppo di amici scienziati fanno in modo che Ed presenti uno studio sulla fisica e una nuova invenzione in facoltà. A poco a poco Catherine si innamora.

Ambientato negli anni trenta, il film si apre con un giovane senzatetto, chiamato Ragazzo, testimone di un massacro di gangster per mano di Zucca Piatta e Grilletto, due sicari di Alphonse "Big Boy" Caprice, un grottesco mafioso che ha in pugno diverse piccole imprese della città. Il detective Dick Tracy indaga sul massacro con i suoi due fidi colleghi, Sam Catchem e Pat Patton venendo poi a caso a conoscenza di Ragazzo, salvandolo dal violento padrone. In seguito Dick Tracy decide di adottare temporaneamente il ragazzino insieme alla fidanzata Tess Cuorsincero. In poco tempo, il vivace Ragazzo diventa la spalla di Tracy.
Intanto Big Boy uccide Labbra Manlins (un altro suo debitore), il proprietario del Club Ritz e gli ruba la ragazza, la seducente e formosa Mozzafiato Mahoney. Con la scomparsa di Manlins, Dick Tracy va al club di Big Boy e lo arresta sotto l'accusa di omicidio. Mozzafiato è l'unica testimone, ma invece di fornire delle prove contro Big Boy, tenta senza successo di sedurre Dick Tracy. Big Boy viene così scarcerato per insufficienza di prove, e la sua mossa successiva è allearsi con altri criminali, tra cui Spud Spaldoni, il Grinza e altri per fortificare il suo impero. Spaldoni però rifiuta e così viene ucciso quella stessa notte con un'autobomba. Il giorno dopo Big Boy e i suoi scagnozzi catturano e per poco uccidono Dick Tracy legandolo vicino a una caldaia sul punto di esplodere, ma viene salvato da Ragazzo, che viene poi premiato dalla polizia con un diploma di "detective onorario", ma siccome è provvisorio, lo potrà diventare solo se si trova un nome.

Trama

Mia Hall pensava che la scelta più difficile da affrontare sarebbe stata quella tra l'adempimento dei suoi sogni musicali e la prosecuzione della storia d'amore con Adam, il ragazzo con cui condivide una forte e sincera passione. Mentre racconta agli spettatori la propria vicenda, però, Mia è in coma. Sulla scena, la sua anima si aggira per le stanze dell'ospedale, invisibile agli altri, e rammenta gli ultimi mesi trascorsi.
L'incidente che l'ha costretta in fin di vita è stato fatale a sua madre Kat, al padre Denny e al fratellino Teddy. Immersa in un quadro drammatico, la ragazza - così come si esprime attraverso il doppio in una imprecisata realtà, sospesa tra la vita e la morte - è tentata di lasciarsi andare, non trovando una ragione per cui valga la pena rimanere al mondo. Il racconto della voce fuori campo procede, si snoda attraverso la storia d'amore con Adam e le relazioni con le persone care, come il nonno, che la veglia al suo capezzale, o l'amica Kim.
Prima dell'incidente, Mia e Adam si sono lasciati, consci di dover rinunciare al loro legame. Cresciuti entrambi a Portland, nell'Oregon, si trovano di fronte a strade che sembra debbano necessariamente separarsi. Lei, provetta violoncellista e teenager all'ultimo anno di scuola, progetta infatti di andare a vivere a New York, qualora l'audizione alla Juilliard dovesse dare un esito positivo, e Adam riscuote un crescente successo come cantante rock, acclamato nei locali della costa nord-occidentale.
Ora, tuttavia, Adam accorre in ospedale, pregando Mia di non abbandonarlo, e leggendole la lettera in cui la Julliard le comunica di essere stata accettata. Adam le dice di volerla seguire a New York e Mia, scoprendo nell'amore del giovane lo stimolo per continuare a vivere, si sveglia.

Trama :

Sam rimane vedovo ed ? inconsolabile, tanto da cambiare citt? portandosi dietro il figlioletto Jonah. Il bambino non trova di meglio che rivolgersi a una radio e il caso di Sam diventa nazionale tanto che affascina anche Annie, giornalista a Baltimora dall'altra parte degli Stati Uniti. Nel frattempo Sam comincia a ricevere una marea di lettere di aspiranti mogli e Jonah, tra tutte pesca quella di Annie. Dopo varie vicende ci si ritrover? tutti a New York in cima all'Empire State Building, il giorno di San Valentino.

Plot :

Sam Baldwin, a Chicago architect, loses his wife Maggie to cancer. He and his young son Jonah start anew in Seattle, Washington, but Sam continues to grieve.

A year and a half later, on Christmas Eve 1992, Jonah?who wants his father to find a new wife?calls in to a radio talk show. Jonah persuades Sam to go on the air to talk about how much he misses Maggie. Hundreds of women from around the country who hear the program and are touched by the story write to Sam.

One of the listeners is Annie Reed, a Baltimore Sun reporter. She is engaged to Walter but feels there is something missing from their relationship. After watching the film An Affair to Remember, Annie impulsively writes a letter suggesting that Sam meet her on top of the Empire State Building on Valentine's Day. She does not intend to mail it, but her friend and editor Becky does it for her and agrees to send Annie to Seattle to "look into doing a story on those radio shows".

Sam begins dating a co-worker, Victoria, whom Jonah dislikes. Jonah, a baseball fan, reads Annie's letter and likes that it mentions the Baltimore Orioles, but he fails to convince his father to go to New York to meet Annie. On the advice of his friend Jessica, Jonah replies to Annie, agreeing to the New York meeting.

While dropping Victoria off at the airport for a flight, Sam sees Annie exiting from her plane and is taken by her, although he has no idea who she...

Ambientato all'interno di una sinistra casa coloniale dell’America rurale dei giorni nostri, dopo i drammatici eventi di Resident Evil 6, i giocatori potranno sperimentare la visuale in prima persona per la prima volta nella serie Resident Evil. Plot :

Seth (Nicolas Cage) is one of many angels who watch over humans and protect them in unseen ways. Seth's main responsibility is to appear to those who are close to death and guide them to the next life. As part of this task, Seth and one of his fellow angels, Cassiel (Andre Braugher), like to ask people what their favorite thing in life was. But despite their daily encounters, they appear to have trouble understanding human beings and their ways.
While waiting to escort to the other world a man who will not survive heart surgery, Seth is impressed by the vigorous efforts of the surgeon, Maggie Rice (Meg Ryan), to try to save the ill-fated man's life and her sincere anguish at her failure to do so. Seth soon becomes preoccupied with Maggie and decides to become visible to her despite his obvious inability to give her many convincing details about himself, such as what he does for a living or even his last name. Trama :

La dottoressa Maggie Rice (Meg Ryan) è una stimata e bravissima cardiologa che lavora in un grande ospedale di Los Angeles. Durante un intervento che sembrava di routine e praticamente riuscito, il paziente muore sotto i ferri. In seguito a questo episodio, la dottoressa Rice va incontro a una profonda crisi, che la porta a dubitare di se stessa e delle sue capacità. All'interno dell'ospedale vi è anche Seth (Nicholas Cage), un angelo immortale vestito di nero che ha il compito di offrire conforto spirituale ai malati e di accompagnare i morenti nel loro ultimo viaggio. Egli è invisibile, infatti solo chi sta per morire può avvertirne la presenza. Seth è al fianco dell'anima dell'uomo che muore durante l'operazione della dottoressa Rice. Avverte la straordinaria forza della donna, la sua determinazione e in seguito la sua disperazione e se ne innamora. Georg Elser avrebbe potuto cambiare il corso della storia mondiale e salvare milioni di vite umane se solo avesse avuto 13 minuti in più. In quel breve arco di tempo, la bomba che aveva assemblato personalmente sarebbe esplosa e avrebbe fatto saltare in aria Adolf Hitler e i suoi più alti collaboratori, decimando il futuro terzo Reich. Ciò però non accadde e l'8 settembre 1939 Hitler lasciò la scena dell'attentato prima del previsto, lasciando Elser fallire miseramente. Chi era in realtà Elser, capace di capire in anticipo i pericoli rappresentati da Hitler?

Cina, 1924. Il piccolo Douzi, figlio di una prostituta, viene lasciato dalla madre presso la scuola di recitazione dell’Opera di Pechino, dove verrà istruito al mestiere di attore; qui Douzi stringe un’intensa amicizia con uno dei suoi compagni, Shitou. L’apprendistato dei due ragazzi è estremamente duro e faticoso; ma con il passare degli anni, Douzi e Shitou continuano a recitare insieme e diventano due attori di grande fama...

Chen Kaige, esponente di punta della cosiddetta “quinta generazione” del cinema cinese, porta sullo schermo “Addio mia concubina”, adattamento cinematografico di immenso successo dell’omonimo romanzo di Lilian Lee. Vincitore della Palma d’Oro come miglior film al Festival di Cannes del 1993, “Addio mia concubina” è un sontuoso melodramma che ripercorre mezzo secolo di storia della Cina, dal 1924 al 1977, attraverso le vicende personali di due attori dell’Opera di Pechino. Educati alla rigida scuola di recitazione del maestro Guan Jifa (Lu Qui), Shitou (Fengyi Zhang) e Douzi (Leslie Cheung), che da adulti assumono i nomi d’arte di Duan Xiaolou e Cheng Dieyi, diventano famosi grazie all’opera intitolata “Addio mia concubina”, in cui Duan recita la parte del Re Xiang Yu e Cheng quella della sua concubina, Yu Ji, che pur di rimanere fedele al proprio sovrano sceglie di uccidersi con la sua spada.
A costituire il nucleo narrativo del film è dunque il rapporto che lega i due protagonisti nel corso di oltre cinquant’anni: da bambini, sottoposti al durissimo apprendistato della scuola di recitazione dell’Opera di Pechino; e da adulti, quando il loro sodalizio artistico ed affettivo verrà messo in crisi dall’entrata in scena dell’affascinante prostituta Juxian (Gong Li), che sposa Duan e tenta di convincerlo ad abbandonare il palcoscenico, scatenando la feroce gelosia di Cheng. Sullo sfondo, i grandi avvenimenti storici che hanno segnato la Cina del ventesimo secolo: l’occupazione giapponese, la fondazione della Repubblica Popolare Cinese e la Rivoluzione Culturale del 1966, che segnò il tramonto dell’Opera di Pechino e del suo straordinario retaggio di tradizioni. La Rivoluzione Culturale, con il suo terribile carico di devastazioni e di soprusi, corrisponde perciò al momento in cui il Caos prende il sopravvento non solo sulla cultura, ma anche sui sentimenti privati, con la definitiva separazione fra Duan e Cheng (che si incontreranno solo un’ultima volta, undici anni più tardi).
Tema centrale di “Addio mia concubina” è comunque senza ombra di dubbio l’eterna dicotomia (?) fra arte e vita, perfettamente espressa dal personaggio di Cheng; a differenza del suo compagno Duan, tanto regale sulla scena quanto mediocre al di fuori di essa, Cheng sceglie di identificarsi completamente con il ruolo che interpreta, annullando di fatto la distanza esistente fra realtà e palcoscenico. La sua passione nei confronti di Duan, mai rivelata in maniera esplicita e confinata nell’ambito del desiderio, può così essere sublimata nella dimensione teatrale, per culminare infine in un epilogo catartico in cui svanisce qualunque residuo di differenza tra la verità e la finzione. “Addio mia concubina” può perciò essere letto, in ultima analisi, come un’esaltazione dell’Arte che prevale sulle ragioni della Storia: un’esaltazione che si manifesta mediante lo splendore figurativo delle immagini, la fascinazione per lo spettacolo, le ineffabili suggestioni trasmesse dall’Opera di Pechino. Allo stesso tempo, l’eleganza formale del film costituisce un veicolo indispensabile per portare alla luce le diverse sensibilità dei protagonisti ed il loro contrastato universo emozionale.
