In continuing the great tradition of DECCA's magnificent MET Opera DVDs, GIORDANO: ANDREA CHÉNIER is captured here in excellent quality, showcasing Luciano Pavarotti the premiere opera star of his day in one his most memorable performances, alongside Maria Guleghina and Juan Pons, with the MET Opera Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by James Levine.

Luciano Pavarotti's assumption of the role ofreal-life French revolutionary poet, Andrea Chénier, led to a celebrated 1984 DeccaCD recording - but has never before been seen on film. Following this year's DVD release of his 1978MET performance as Cavaradossi in Tosca,autumn 2011 will see another classic stage performance from the legendary tenor- in the MET's 1996 TV broadcast of Umberto Giordano's verismo classic.

In Nicolas Joël's glamorous, period-costume staging,Pavarotti is partnered by a young Maria Guleghina, who shines as Chénier'sdoomed innamorata (an invention of Giordano and his librettist Illica), thearistocratic debuttante, Maddalena.

Completing a starry trio of principals is the greatSpanish baritone, Juan Pons, in the role of Carlo Gérard - Chénier's jealous rivalfor Maddalena's affections. The MET's long-servingmusic director, James Levine, is in the pit.

One of the great verismooperatic dramas, Andrea Chénier is notable for the title role's two great soloarias, 'Un dì all'azzurro spazio' (also known as 'L'improvviso&#39

and 'Come unbel dì di maggio', as well as the overwhelming final duet, 'Vicino a te'.

Bellini's romantic opera 'La sonnambula' (1831), hinges on the love and misunderstanding between Elvino and Amina (the ‘sleepwalker’ of the title). Discovered in the bedroom of Rodolfo, Amina is assumed to have been unfaithful, and Elvino cancels their wedding. But in the dramatic final scene, he witnesses Amina sleepwalking, understands her innocence, and all ends happily. Mary Zimmerman's production plays with the dual realities of a rehearsal of the opera and a performance of the opera itself.

In his latest Decca DVD release, bel canto star Juan Diego Flórez assumes the role of Elvino in Bellini’s romantic drama, playing opposite the mercurial French soprano, Natalie Dessay, in the MET’s striking, modern-dress production, screening live worldwide in March 2009.

The MET’s ‘La Sonnambula’ website reads: “Mary Zimmerman, who directed Natalie Dessay in last season’s hit new production of Lucia di Lammermoor, underlines La Sonnambula’s dual elements of sleep and wakefulness in an intriguing staging set in the present. Bellini’s hauntingly lyrical score soars as performed by Dessay and Juan Diego Flórez, back from their sensational run together in La Fille du Régiment in leading opera houses around the world.”

The DVD release will benefit from the addition of the customary MET backstage and interview footage, familiar to devotees of their live worldwide cinema broadcasts.

Following Flórez's latest DVD release (Cenerentola, in October 2009), 2010 will also see a second Flórez DVD – Bellini’s ‘I Puritani’, with Nino Machaidze, from Bologna.

Caterina la Grande è una miniserie in quattro parti scritta da Nigel Williams (Elizabeth I) per HBO e Sky, con la regia di Philip Martin (The Crown). Il drama storico è incentrato sulla figura di Ekaterina II Alekseevna, l'imperatrice di Russia conosciuta come Caterina la Grande, che regnò dal 1762 fino alla morte diventando uno dei più importanti esempi di dispotismo illuminato. New York. Gli uomini della famiglia Reagan da generazioni lavorano come poliziotti presso il New York City Police Department. Frank Reagan è il capo del dipartimento, ruolo che precedentemente era stato ricoperto anche da suo padre Henry. Il Cantagiro giunge così al termine e Walter e Paola scopriranno che in definitiva pur dopo continui bisticci ed essere arrivati al punto di odiarsi, formano proprio una bella coppia.

Little Rita è una terribile pistolera che percorre instancabilmente i sentieri del west alla caccia di spietati banditi. Si allontanerà quindi nella notte, inseguita da un giovane cow-boy che Little Rita ha redento e che si è innamorato di lei.

Little Rita has a dream: she dreams of a better world and she believes that all the evil in the world originates from gold. So she has decided to blow up all the gold she can put her hands on. In her mission she is assisted by the Indian Chief Bisonte Seduto and by her friend Francis. Little Rita kills Ringo and Django, but she is taken prisoner by the Mexican bandit Sancho who wants to steal her gold. Black Star rescues her and seems determined to help her, but does he?

The Shamer's daughter, Dina, has unwillingly inherited her mother's supernatural ability. She can look straight into the soul of other people, making them feel ashamed of themselves. When the sole heir to the throne is wrongfully accused of the horrible murders of his family, Dina's mother is lured to Dunark under false pretenses to make him confess. Neglecting to use her ability for the wrong purposes, she is taken prisoner. It is now up to Dina to uncover the truth of the murders, but soon she finds herself whirled into a dangerous power struggle with her own life at risk. In a semi realistic medieval fantasy world with Dragons and Witchcraft, Dina and her family are thrown into the adventure of a lifetime in order to put the rightful heir to the Kingdom of Dunark on the Throne.
