In una notte del dicembre del 1992, una creatura mostruosa invisibile al normale occhio umano esce dalle fogne di New York e devasta la città, ma un gruppo di maghi interviene per fermarla, anch'essi invisibili. Plot :

The film begins in late 1999. Tetraplegic forensics expert Lincoln Rhyme (Denzel Washington) and a patrol cop, Amelia Donaghy (Angelina Jolie), team up to solve a string of murders connected to a serial killer by his signature: a single shard of bone removed from each of the victims. Rhyme was paralyzed from the neck down in an earlier accident and is bed-bound and completely reliant on machines and his nurse Thelma (Queen Latifah).

The killer poses as a New York City taxi driver and abducts and kills those who get in his taxi. The first victims are a married couple named Alan and Lindsay Rubin that the killer picked up at the airport. Amelia finds Alan's body buried in a Civil War-era railroad bed. She also finds a collection of clues including a pile of piece-ground oyster shells, which eventually leads Amelia - now working with Rhyme - to Alan's wife, and a scrap of paper. The detectives find Mrs. Rubin, too late, at a steam junction in a below-ground services area of a building in the Financial District, secured using old antique handcuffs or shackles at the mouth of a pipe which...

Trama :

New York, 1999. Lincoln Rhyme è un geniale criminologo divenuto tetraplegico in seguito ad un gravissimo incidente accaduto mentre esaminava la scena di un delitto, quattro anni prima. Rhyme, stanco della propria condizione, progetta di togliersi la vita con l'aiuto di un amico medico; questi, dopo un'iniziale titubanza, acconsente ad assisterlo, prendendo tuttavia tempo per dare modo a Rhyme di rifletterci. Nel frattempo, i coniugi Alan e Lindsay Rubin, appena rientrati a New York, vengono rapiti all'aeroporto da un misterioso individuo che si finge tassista. Rhyme viene contattato dall'amico e detective Paulie Sellitto e dal partner di questi, il giovane Kenny Solomon, che gli chiedono di occuparsi del caso; Rhyme, inizialmente riluttante, accetta.

Il giorno dopo, la brillante agente Amelia Donaghy rinviene durante un giro di pattuglia un corpo sepolto nella ghiaia accanto ai binari di una vecchia linea ferroviaria; si tratta del cadavere di Alan Rubin. Amelia trova anche degli strani indizi, lasciati appositamente dal killer sui binari, e, nonostante manchi dell'addestramento necessario, gestisce la situazione con grande perizia, fotografando la scena del crimine e mantenendola intatta fino all'arrivo della Scientifica e della Squadra Omicidi. L'abilità di Amelia impressiona molto Rhyme, ma...

Trama

Dopo un delicatissimo intervento chirurgico, il piccolo Colton, un bambino di quattro anni, guarisce da un'appendicite perforata inizialmente non riconosciuta; nei mesi successivi, da vari indizi, frasi e risposte a domande mirate del bambino, il padre scopre che Colton, durante l'intervento, ha avuto un'esperienza di pre-morte: riferisce di essere stato in Paradiso e di aver incontrato Gesù, gli angeli e alcuni componenti defunti della sua famiglia, acquisendo conoscenze non comuni per la sua età, attinenti sia alla religione sia ad alcuni fatti della vita della sua famiglia che non poteva conoscere in alcun modo. Il padre di Colton, Todd Burpo, è pastore della comunità metodista di Imperial, nella contea del Nebraska, e si pone il problema di capire cosa sia successo al figlio nei momenti drammatici della sua malattia.

Il GGG è un gigante, un Grande Gigante Gentile, molto diverso dagli altri abitanti del Paese dei Giganti che come San-Guinario e Inghiotticicciaviva si nutrono di esseri umani, preferibilmente bambini. E così una notte il GGG – che è vegetariano e si ciba soltanto di Cetrionzoli e Sciroppio – rapisce Sophie, una bambina che vive a Londra e la porta nella sua caverna. Inizialmente spaventata dal misterioso gigante, Sophie ben presto si rende conto che il GGG è in realtà dolce, amichevole e può insegnarle cose meravigliose. Il GGG porta infatti Sophie nel Paese dei Sogni, dove cattura i sogni che manda di notte ai bambini e le spiega tutto sulla magia e il mistero dei sogni. L’affetto e la complicità tra i due cresce rapidamente, e quando gli altri giganti sono pronti a nuova strage, il GGG e Sophie decidono di avvisare nientemeno che la Regina d’Inghilterra dell’imminente minaccia, e tutti insieme concepiranno un piano per sbarazzarsi dei giganti una volta per tutte.

Il GGG è un gigante, un Grande Gigante Gentile, molto diverso dagli altri abitanti del Paese dei Giganti che come San-Guinario e Inghiotticicciaviva si nutrono di esseri umani, preferibilmente bambini. E così una notte il GGG – che è vegetariano e si ciba soltanto di Cetrionzoli e Sciroppio – rapisce Sophie, una bambina che vive a Londra e la porta nella sua caverna. Inizialmente spaventata dal misterioso gigante, Sophie ben presto si rende conto che il GGG è in realtà dolce, amichevole e può insegnarle cose meravigliose. Il GGG porta infatti Sophie nel Paese dei Sogni, dove cattura i sogni che manda di notte ai bambini e le spiega tutto sulla magia e il mistero dei sogni. L’affetto e la complicità tra i due cresce rapidamente, e quando gli altri giganti sono pronti a nuova strage, il GGG e Sophie decidono di avvisare nientemeno che la Regina d’Inghilterra dell’imminente minaccia, e tutti insieme concepiranno un piano per sbarazzarsi dei giganti una volta per tutte.

Rick e Diane decidono di trascorrere con la propria famiglia un weekend nell’altopiano d’Ozark e far finalmente rivedere alla dolce nonna Nana i luoghi in cui ha trascorso la propria infanzia. Al loro arrivo, la città è in fase di preparazione per la festa d’estate. Nel frattempo un gruppo di abitanti del luogo inizia ad infastidire involontariamente degli squali che hanno scelto come propria dimora una profonda insenatura nell’Ozark. La famiglia così decide di fermare le creature e salvare la città. Sarà una vacanza che nessuno dimenticherà presto.

Rembrandt, insieme a Caravaggio e Vermeer, è sicuramente uno dei pittori più cinematografici di tutti i tempi, quello che più ha ispirato il cinema grazie al suo sapiente uso della luce. Un film che "dipingesse" la sua storia e il suo mondo di luci e ombre non poteva che essere girato da un regista dallo spirito pittorico ed estetizzante come Greenaway, studioso di arte e pittore prima ancora che regista.
Forse anche per affinità ideologiche e personali, il regista gallese ha scelto di raccontare un particolare periodo della vita di questo mugnaio di provincia diventato in poco tempo, a soli 23 anni, una celebrità nell'Olanda del '600: un "mélange tra Mick Jagger e Bill Gates" (parole di Greenaway), se fosse vissuto nella nostra epoca. Nightwatching indaga proprio sul punto di rottura, sul momento di passaggio in cui la carriera di questo artista all'apice del successo ricevette una scossa, portandolo sul lastrico non solo a livello economico, ma anche sociale e personale.
Ambientato nel 1642, il film racconta la genesi del suo più celebre dipinto, "Nightwatching" ("La ronda di notte&quot, inizialmente intitolato "La milizia", ritratto di gruppo di una milizia civica di Amsterdam. Lavorando al dipinto, Rembrandt scoprirà la cospirazione che i suoi committenti stanno orchestrando, e ciò lo spingerà a trasformare coraggiosamente il dipinto in un vero e proprio atto d'accusa contro i potenti.
Da qui l'inizio delle sue sventure, che Greenaway ha voluto indagare, costruendo una vicenda che si muove tra misteri criminali, satira politica e passioni amorose...

Durante un viaggio verso una nuova casa su un altro pianeta, due passeggeri vengono svegliati 90 anni prima del previsto per un guasto della nave spaziale. Dopo aver cantato la canzone principale del film, Una stella cade, il Grillo Parlante inizia a raccontare una storia su un desiderio che si avvera. In flashback, vagabondando, il Grillo arriva nella bottega del falegname Geppetto, in cui entra per riscaldarsi dal freddo e in cui assiste il falegname completare un burattino di legno, che chiama Pinocchio. Prima di addormentarsi, Geppetto esprime ad una stella chiamata "stella dei desideri" il desiderio che Pinocchio possa essere un bambino vero e, durante la notte, la stella scende sulla terra e prende la forma di una fata vestita d'azzurro. Esaudendo il desiderio di Geppetto, la Fata Azzurra dona la vita a Pinocchio, lasciandolo però nel corpo di un burattino e dicendogli che se vorrà diventare un bambino vero in carne ed ossa dovrà dimostrare di essere "bravo, coraggioso e disinteressato" e appunta il Grillo, nel frattempo entrato in scena, nel ruolo di coscienza di Pinocchio.
