TRAMA
Il Dottore è un Signore del Tempo, ultimo superstite del pianeta Gallifrey, che compie viaggi spazio-temporali a bordo del TARDIS, di enormi dimensioni all'interno, ma che all'esterno presenta l'aspetto dimesso e le dimensioni di una vecchia cabina telefonica della polizia britannica.
I Signori del Tempo assomigliano molto agli esseri umani, ma la loro fisiologia differisce in alcuni aspetti chiave: il Dottore ha due cuori, un sistema respiratorio di esclusione che gli permette di respirare senza aria, ha una temperatura corporea interna di 15-16 gradi centigradi. Ha, inoltre, una resistenza agli effetti temporali, così come alcune abilità telepatiche.
Il misterioso Dottore (Who in inglese significa "chi&#34 è in realtà un extraterrestre, un Signore del Tempo, che periodicamente si rigenera, allo scadere del suo ciclo vitale o in caso di morte violenta, in un nuovo corpo per un massimo di 12 rigenerazioni. Inizialmente bandito dal suo pianeta natale, Gallifrey, è stato successivamente eletto presidente dell'Alto Consiglio, rifiutando però la carica per continuare a viaggiare liberamente nello spazio e nel tempo. Ha eletto la Terra come sua seconda patria e vi torna ogni volta che può.

Dick Nolan, giornalista all'interno di un giornale scandalistico, è il narratore di questa storia che parte col racconto di Margaret

Ulbrich la quale nel 1958 decide di scappare dalla sua abitazione in California assieme alla figlia Jane per dirigersi a San

Francisco, in quanto non riesce più a sostenere la sua relazione col marito Frank. Si trasferisce a San Francisco in cerca di lavoro

ma purtroppo, nonostante il suo grande talento come pittrice, le possibilità di trovare un'occupazione sono pochissime. Inizia a

fare la decoratrice in una fabbrica di mobili e per arrotondare realizza ritratti per la strada. È lì che viene a conoscenza di un altro

pittore di strada di nome Walter Keane, il quale cerca di approcciarsi a Margaret, per la quale prova una forte attrazione.

Walter è un agente immobiliare e come hobby dipinge dei vicoli di Parigi, città nella quale afferma di aver vissuto a lungo e dove

ha effettuato i suoi studi in una delle più importanti Università artistiche, mentre Margaret si fa notare per una caratteristica

particolare che consiste nel dipingere soggetti femminili di tenera età, spesso corrispondenti alla figlia Jane, con occhi di

dimensioni sproporzionate al resto del corpo per sottolineare che quella parte del corpo riesce a caratterizzare al meglio i soggetti

delle tele. I due cominciano a conoscersi e Walter, dopo che l'ex marito di Margaret pretende che le venga assegnata la figlia Jane,

propone a Margaret di sposarlo. Anche se appare tutto molto affrettato Margaret, affascinata dal carisma e dall'intraprendenza di

Walter, decide di sposarlo.



In 1958, Margaret Ulbrich leaves her husband and takes her young daughter Jane to North Beach, San Francisco. Supporting her

daughter alone, Margaret gets a job painting illustrations at a furniture factory. While creating portraits at an outdoor art show,

Margaret meets Walter Keane, who is selling his Parisian street scene paintings. Soon, Walter proposes to her and they marry.

Walter goes to a popular jazz club and tries to convince the club's owner, Enrico Banducci, to purchase the couple's paintings.

He only agrees to rent out the walls to Walter. A drunk woman is touched by one of Margaret's paintings and buys it. Walter fights

with Banducci and ends up on the front page of the local newspaper. When Walter goes to the club again it is packed with curious

people. Dick Nolan, a celebrity gossip columnist (who serves as the film's narrator), wants to know more about Walter's art, but is

only interested in Margaret's paintings. Afterward, Walter shows Margaret all the money they have made from the sales. He tells

her they are a great team: she can stay at home painting and he will sell her works.

Un misterioso sabotatore ha installato un pericolo ordigno esplosivo a bordo di un treno. Il treno viene fatto deviare verso una stazione secondaria e la popolazione del luogo è costretta ad evacuare. La polizia chiama il suo miglior artificiere, il maggiore Peter Lyncourt che comincia ad ispezionare ogni vagone e riesce a trovare e a disinnescare la bomba poco prima che esploda. Nel frattempo la polizia ha catturato il terrorista e, poiché si rifiuta di confessare, viene legato a un vagone del treno. Man mano che passa il tempo, il sabotatore è sempre più nervoso, fino al momento in cui rivela la presenza di un secondo ordigno. Lyncourt, con sprezzo del pericolo, ricomincia la ricerca. Riuscirà ad arrivare in tempo?
