TRAMA

Argentinian band.
Since 1974, when Gustavo Moretto, Carlos Riganti and Alex Zuker formed a group called ALAS (Spanish for "wings&#34, this sophisticated trio has captured the ambience of Buenos Aires by combining the radical styles of Progressive Rock, Tango, Argentine Folk and most Contemporary Classical music.
Their incorporation of the traditional instrument, the bandoneon, had never been tried before in this new musical context and it is still a milestone in the history of Buenos Aires popular music.
Astor Piazzolla, Argentine Tango Master and internationally renowned musician Pedro Aznar, have praised ALAS for their successful fusion and called them the most sophisticated Argentine progressive band of all time.

Attacco a Mumbai, il film diretto da Anthony Maras, è ambientato nel novembre 2008, quando alcuni jihadisti del Pakistan mettono in atto una serie di attacchi terroristici a Mumbai, facendo precipitare nel caos la città più popolosa dell’India. Durante i tre giorni dell’assedio, gli uomini armati sequestrano il leggendario Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, tenendo prigionieri all’interno oltre 500 ospiti e dipendenti.
Il film si concentra sugli eventi accaduti nel leggendario hotel, considerato l’emblema del progresso del paese e del suo variegato patrimonio culturale. Nel pieno dell’attacco, persone provenienti da diversi paesi, culture, religioni e classi sociali dovranno trovare il modo di reagire e far fronte ai continui pericoli.

All'inizio del film, Mewtwo (lo stesso creato 20 anni prima da Giovanni e fuggito durante gli eventi del primo film animato) riesce a fuggire da un centro di ricerca segreto in cui era rinchiuso, e subito una macchina rimane vittima di uno spaventoso incidente, a prima vista provocato da Mewtwo stesso, nel tentativo di fuggire dalla struttura.

TRAMA

TRAMA

Harry Potter è una serie di romanzi fantasy scritta da J. K. Rowling e ambientata principalmente nell'immaginario Mondo magico durante gli anni novanta del XX secolo. In particolare segue le vicende della Scuola di Magia e Stregoneria di Hogwarts, in Scozia, annesse alla tormentata adolescenza del giovane mago inglese Harry Potter, inevitabilmente legato dal fato alla lotta contro Lord Voldemort.

Ideata proprio nei primi anni novanta, la serie fu pubblicata tra il 1997 e il 2007. Tradotta in 80 lingue, tra cui il latino e il greco antico, resta seconda nella storia dell'editoria, con una vendita complessiva di 500 milioni di copie, soltanto al Maigret di Simenon.

In aggiunta ai sette romanzi, l'autrice ha pubblicato tre pseudobiblia come supplemento alla saga: Gli animali fantastici: dove trovarli, Il Quidditch attraverso i secoli e Le fiabe di Beda il Bardo.

Inoltre, nel 2016, è uscito un ottavo volume contenente la sceneggiatura dello spettacolo teatrale Harry Potter e la maledizione dell'erede.

La serie di film ispirata alla saga è, con un incasso di 7,7 miliardi di dollari, la più remunerativa della storia di Hollywood. Nel 2016, il primo dei cinque episodi ispirati allo pseudobiblion Gli animali fantastici: dove trovarli è uscito nelle sale cinematografiche; il secondo capitolo è uscito il 15 novembre 2018.

Mobley was born in Eastman, Georgia, but was raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, near Newark. When he was 16, an illness kept him in the house for several months. His uncle thought of buying a saxophone to help him occupy his time, and it was then that Mobley began to play. He tried to enter a music school in Newark, but couldn't, since he was not a resident, so he kept studying through books at home. At 19, he started to play with local bands and, months later, worked for the first time with musicians like Dizzy Gillespie and Max Roach. He took part in one of the earliest hard bop sessions, alongside Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Doug Watkins and trumpeter Kenny Dorham. The results of these sessions were released as Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers. They contrasted with the classical pretensions of cool jazz, with Mobley's rich lyricism being bluesier, alongside the funky approach of Horace Silver. When The Jazz Messengers split in 1956, Mobley continued on with pianist Silver for a short time, although he did work again with Blakey some years later, when the drummer appeared on Mobley's albums in the early 1960s.

During the 1960s, he worked chiefly as a leader, recording over 20 albums for Blue Note Records between 1955 and 1970, including Soul Station (1960), generally considered to be his finest recording, and Roll Call (1960). He performed with many of the other important hard bop players, such as Grant Green, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Clark, Wynton Kelly and Philly Joe Jones, and formed a particularly productive partnership with trumpeter Lee Morgan. Mobley is widely recognized as one of the great composers of originals in the hard-bop era, with interesting chord changes and room for soloists to stretch out.

Mobley spent a brief time in 1961 with Miles Davis, during the trumpeter's search for a replacement for John Coltrane. He is heard on the album Someday My Prince Will Come (alongside Coltrane, who returned for the recording of two tracks), and some live recordings (In Person: Live at the Blackhawk and At Carnegie Hall). Though considered by some as not having the improvisational fire of Coltrane, Mobley was known for his melodic playing.

Mobley was forced to retire in the mid-1970s due to lung problems. He worked two engagements at the Angry Squire in New York City November 22 and 23, 1985, and January 11, 1986, in a quartet with Duke Jordan and guest singer Lodi Carr a few months before his death from pneumonia in 1986

After the dissolution of The Clone Defects in 2004, Timmy Vulgar formed the mind-expanding, speaker-destroying band Human Eye shortly afterwards in Detroit, Michigan. Consisting of Vulgar on guitar and vocals, as well as Johnny LZR on synthesizers, Brad Hales on bass, and Hurricane William on drums, the band blends raw punk fury with blown-out garage psych to create a whirlwind of acid punk chaos. The band made their self-titled debut in 2005 on In the Red Records, and quickly made a name for themselves with their chaotic live shows that drew audiences in with their use of props and insane visuals. After a steady stream of limited singles, Human Eye released their second album, Fragments of the Universe Nurse, on Hook or Crook in 2010, then followed up quickly in 2011 with They Came from the Sky. Months later, the band recorded a live show at Jack White's Detroit indie label/record store Third Man Records, which was released as Third Man Live 09-23-2011. In 2013, the group released 4: Into Unknown on Goner Records.

Hail Spirit Noir’s first album, Pneuma (reviewed here), was unlike anything else I heard in 2012. It was exceedingly strange and yet brilliant, a splicing together of black metal, 60?s flower-power pop psychedelics, 70?s prog rock, 80?s New Wave dance beats, melodic doom, and even cool jazz. Each song was distinctively different from, though related to, the others, like cousins on a gnarled family tree.

I listened to Pneuma as often as any other album I discovered last year. Needless to say, I’ve been anxious to hear what this Greek duo would do next. And what they’ve done next is an album named Oi Magoi (“The Magicians”).

Last week, via Heavy Hard Metalmania, the band premiered an advance track named “Satan Is Time”, and it’s thoroughly captivating. It pushes and recedes like the tide, an eerie psychedelic ambience trading places with a pulsing rock beat, distorted guitar chords moving with blood-pumping bass and drum rhythms, soaring clean vocals in partnership with ugly harsh ones. The melody will get stuck in your head, and you may feel like chanting the song’s title right along with vocalist Theoharis.

Oi Magoi will be released by Code666 Records on January 20, 2014. Credit (and profuse thanks) to Andy Synn for alerting me to the debut of this new song.
