Rick Grimes è un vice sceriffo vittima di un incidente durante uno scontro a fuoco con dei fuorilegge: colpito alla schiena, va in coma, lasciando tra le lacrime la moglie Lori e il figlio Carl. Il risveglio, poco tempo dopo, è traumatico: l'ospedale è distrutto ed è pieno di cadaveri. Rick non ci metterà molto a capire la situazione: il "virus" che sembrava essere controllato prima del suo incidente, ha preso piede. I morti si risvegliano e attaccano i vivi, la cui presenza è sempre minore. Il vice sceriffo sfrutterà tutte le sue abilità di sopravvivenza e di capacità con le armi per sopravvivere e uscire dalla città, trovando altri superstiti rifugiati tra i boschi: tra questi, ritrova la famiglia e il suo migliore amico Shane. Costretti continuamente a spostarsi, presto si accorgeranno che i veri nemici sono gli altri esseri umani, spinti unicamente dall'istinto di sopravvivenza.

Gli intrighi politici, economici e religiosi dei nobili lasciano la popolazione nella povertà e nel degrado, mentre il mondo viene minacciato dall'arrivo di un inverno diverso dai precedenti, che risveglia creature leggendarie dimenticate e fa emergere forze oscure e magiche...

The Corrs: Live at Lansdowne Road was the second home video by Irish band The Corrs, released on DVD on November 27, 2000. The Lansdowne Road concert was a homecoming for the band in front of a home crowd of 45,000 people and would be the biggest part of the Corrs career after two platinum-selling album Forgiven, Not Forgotten, Talk on Corners, four number-1 hits ("Forgiven, Not Forgotten", "What Can I Do?", "Dreams", "So Young&quot, and Two World Tours.

Captured live in October 1999 before a studio audience in Ireland's Ardmore Studios, The Corrs deliver an outstanding up-close-and-personal performance in a small intimate setting. In addition to what was then their current hits, The Corrs also debut two songs from their album "In Blue" ("Radio" and "At Your Side&quot which are arguably superior than what would wind up on that studio album one year later.
Additionally, the band throws in some stellar renditions of traditional Irish tunes which show off the full scope of their musicianship as well as cover versions of their favorite songs - R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts", Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams", Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" and Thin Lizzy's "Old Town" - which are played in a way that only The Corrs can play them.
A genuine highlight of the entire performance would have to be the cover version of Jimmy McCarthy's "No Frontiers" in which Andrea Corr leaves the stage giving the vocal spotlight over to sisters Sharon and Caroline who give a stirring heartfelt performance here.
Definitely, this DVD was well worth the wait. This is arguably The Corrs best performance on video. Andrea's voice is strong and powerful throughout, Sharon's violin and vocal harmonies are flawless while Caroline and Jim show off amazing versitility by switching between different instruments during the show (Caroline plays drums, bodhran, percussion and piano, Jim switches between many guitars as well as piano). The band's strong back up from Anthony Drennan, Keith Duffy, Mitchell Froom and the Irish Symphonic Film Orchestra give the performance an even bigger boost.

Autore di culto della letteratura americana contemporanea, restio alle apparizioni sui media ma autenticamente seminale – suoi gli incubi che hanno ispirato la prima stagione di True Detective –, Thomas Ligotti è unanimamente considerato l’unico, grande successore di Edgar Allan Poe e H.P. Lovecraft. Lontano dalle atmosfere urbane e quotidiane che caratterizzano l’opera di Stephen King, Ligotti fa sua la lezione dei maestri del passato e mette il lettore di fronte a un orrore che non ha forma né volto né contorno, un orrore che non si può dire, a stento pensare, e che ha nell’assoluta indeterminatezza la radice della presa angosciante che esercita sulla nostra immaginazione.
In Teatro grottesco l’orrore nasce da seminterrati in cui il buio e l’umido hanno prodotto una vita brulicante che aspetta di insinuarsi nel nostro mondo; da isolate, solitarie fabbriche nelle cui viscere si producono artefatti meccanici dagli scopi imperscrutabili; da catene di montaggio in cui la presenza umbratile di misteriosi supervisori è così oppressiva da trasformare l’uomo in ingranaggio; da cittadine in cui la vita è una messinscena e solo quanto accade sui palcoscenici di una fiera itinerante è reale.


CENNI SULL'AUTORE

Nasce a Detroit da una famiglia di origini italiane e si laurea in inglese nel 1977 presso la Wayne State University. Negli anni dell'adolescenza si appassiona alla letteratura weird e di autori quali Poe, Arthur Machen e H.P. Lovecraft che lo ispirano ad iniziare a scrivere mentre è ancora al college. Dopo sei anni, nel 1981, riesce a far pubblicare da una rivista il suo racconto di esordio,The Chymist. Seguiranno le pubblicazioni di svariate raccolte quali Songs of a dead dreamer del 1986; Grimscribe del 1991; Noctuary del 1994 fino alla raccolta che comprende tutte e tre le precedenti, The Nightmare Factory del 1996 con la quale vince il suo primo Premio Bram Stoker per la migliore raccolta di racconti.

Nel 2002 pubblica quello che è il primo esperimento di racconto lungo ai limiti del romanzo, My Work Is Not Yet Done, che gli permetterà di vincere altri premi letterari.Poi è il turno dei "macabri versi" di Death Poems (2004), fino all'ultima raccolta di racconti; Teatro Grottesco nel 2006. Dopo una lunga pausa narrativa nel 2010 pubblica il suo primo saggio; The Conspiracy Against the Human Race, dove esprime tutto il suo pensiero filosofico nichilista e antinatalista.

Nel 2014 la serie televisiva HBO True Detective del produttore Nic Pizzolatto attira l'attenzione dei lettori di Ligotti per via dei dialoghi di uno dei personaggi della serie, Rust Cohle (interpretato da Matthew McConaughey), che per le proprie riflessioni esistenziali e antinatalistiche rimandano al suo saggio tanto che si arriva a vociferare di plagio, poi smentito dallo stesso produttore che però ha citato Ligotti assieme a Laird Barron ed altri come principali riferimenti letterari.

I think people who own the CD/DVD-box Prog Exhibition - 40 Anni Di Musica Immaginifica (see review) will agree that this release is a must have for people who love progressive rock in general and Italian progressive rock in particular. Lately I received another DVD from Italy that, to some extent, can be compared with this box. However, this time it contains only two DVDs and unfortunately no CDs have been included. The Best Of 2Days Prog contains footage of the 2Days ProgVeruno, a progressive rock festival held in Italy. It took place on September 10th and 11th 2010 in the city of Veruno. Apparently this festival has become an annual event, because in 2011 three days of progressive rock music were held at the same venue.

This DVD provides two hours of professionally shot and edited footage from the 2010-edition. Originally this double-DVD was a private release made to reward the people who were members of a collective that made it possible to organize this festival. On the Prog Exhibition release I could only enjoy Italian bands except for some members of foreign bands like the Dutch band Focus and the British bands JethroTull and Van Der Graaf Generator who participated as guest musicians. This time the organization also invited foreign progressive rock acts to perform on this festival beside a couple of Italian acts. Unfortunately only parts of these performances have been included on this release.

The first disc starts with the Italian band Proteo with only nine minutes of music. As a result only Echoes Mankind taken from their debut album Under A Red Polar Light (2009) can be enjoyed. Next are two tracks from Moongarden. They got seventeen minutes for this DVD performing two tracks from their album A Vulgar Display Of Prog (2009). What struck me most while watching them perform Aesthetic Surgery and MDMA, was Gigi Cavalli Cocchi (MangalaVallis) playing the drums with Moongarden. However, it's not that strange because Cristiano Roversi, Moongarden's keyboard player, is currently a member of Mangala Vallis. The performance of Moongarden is excellent, but I would have preferred some older material. Never mind, you can't always get what you want, can you? The Norwegian band Gazpacho is next. Either you love this band or you hate them. There seems to be nothing in between. Gazpacho are exposed for almost half an hour. Although they sometimes create excellent music, in general I find their compositions really boring. This time I managed to stay awake to notice that they included some fine Mellotron-parts, an excellent violin solo and an interesting climax in the final song. The last band on the first disc are Pendragon who also got almost half an hour for two epic pieces. What can I say about them? They always succeed in getting my attention and this time it wasn't different.

The second disc starts with a track of the Italian band Il Castello Di Atlante. This song performed on the acoustic piano and accompanied by a violin contains a fine synthesizer solo that made me think about the solo Keith Emerson played on Lucky Man. La Leggenda New Trolls, also known as The New Trolls, are represented with two songs lasting for about half an hour. The first piece contains a nice organ intro followed by some outstanding playing on the flute. From time to time their music reminded me of bands like The Nice, JethroTull and Focus. This piece also contains a strong guitar and drum solo. The second piece could be described as 'Vivaldi meets Jethro Tull'. Delirium is the third and last band on the second disc. They also perform two songs and again JethroTull crossed my mind due to the flute playing.

Watching both discs gave me some pleasure, because I had the chance to see a number of progressive rock bands play live that you normally won't see on a DVD that much. However, the quality of this release was less good than Prog Exhibition, but I still think that it was a good choice to release this footage.

Edward Carnby, un investigatore del paranormale, viene a sapere della morte di uno scienziato. Indagando, scopre che quest'ultimo era un suo amico di infanzia. Dalle ricerche, inoltre, trova collegamenti con altri diciannove casi di sparizione o omicidio: ogni vittima è legata alle altre per aver trascorso l'infanzia nello stesso orfanotrofio.

Carnby è sulle tracce di un antico manufatto in grado di mettere in contatto col mondo dell'Aldilà, e le indagini lo portano a collaborare con un'antropologa, Aline Cedrac. I due concluderanno le loro ricerche sulle coste di Shadow's Island, dove si scontreranno con un'entità sovrannaturale.

In 2011, I wrote a review about a DVD called The Best Of 2Days Prog (see review), a compilation of the 24th edition of Veruno September Music Festival held in the city of Veruno, Italy. It featured footage of live performances of bands like Gazpacho, Pendragon and Moongarden. These discs gave me great pleasure, because they provide the opportunity to watch a number of progressive rock bands playing live that you normally won't see on a DVD. However, the quality was less good than most regular DVDs, though I still felt it to be a good choice to release this footage.

A year later a second DVD has been released by the same record company to celebrate the 25th edition of the Veruno Festival. This time it's called The Best Of 2DaysProg+1  because the festival lasted for three days instead of two. Originally this double-DVD was meant to be a private release to reward the members of the collective that organized this big prog rock festival early September, 2011, just like the DVD that was released a year earlier. Once again they gave other fans of progressive rock the opportunity to get hold of this release. This means that I got the chance to watch the footage of this 25th edition containing performances of the Friday shows called 'The night of Italian progressive rock' and the Sunday shows called 'Plus Day'. They skipped the Saturday shows called 'The night of metal prog' with Methodica, Riverside and Anathema, amongst others.

The first disc lasts for 64 minutes and holds only the Italian acts that performed on the first day. The first 27 minutes are for Il Tempo Delle Clessidre. They attained quite an achievement with their eponymous debut (see review). I highly recommended this album to people enjoying the music of the seventies made by bands as Genesis, Yes, PFM, ELP, Banco and Le Orme. During this performance I noticed that they're capable of presenting their music live on stage professionally. The band members use different masks to visualize their music with weird rituals. Especially keyboardist Elisa Montaldo draws the  most attention. Not only her playing, but also her presentation on stage lifts the show to a high level. Unfortunately only two tracks from their debut have been recorded for this DVD, but their performance made me decide to see this band myself one day.

Next are Arti E Mestieri with two special guests: Mel Collins on saxophone and flute and David Cross on violin. The music of this thirteen-minute performance is strongly related to King Crimson. That was probably the reason for inviting two former members of this band to support them on stage. Finally a new line-up of Goblin ends the first disc. They are now called New Goblin. Obviously, they played their well-known song Profondo Rosso during the 22 minutes that are included on this disc. The set list includes a drum solo as well, but people who know me a bit better know that drum solos aren't my favourite parts of concerts. I had rather seen some additional footage of another piece they had performed.

The second disc lasts for 74 minutes and covers the third day of the festival. It starts again with two Italian bands. The Alex Carpani Band haven't been around that long. They only got ten minutes to impress the viewers. Behind the drums I spotted a well-known face, namely Marco Fabbri from The Watch. Also guitarist Ettore Salati has already made a name in the prog rock scene. He used to play in The Watch as well, but nowadays he's a member of The RedZen and SoulenginE. People who are familiar with The Alex Carpani Band know that Carpani's keyboards mostly dominate the music, so only occasionally you can enjoy Salati's fine guitar parts. Strangely enough only two songs of the debut Waterline were filmed. One of them is the strong instrumental track Reclaimed. The second Italian act is Maxophone. They only recorded an eponymous album in 1975. The band split up, but reformed in 2005. During their 25-minute show only one track from that album can be enjoyed, namely Elzeviro (Six Against One). The song contains excellent keyboard playing with a nice sample of a church organ and a fine guitar solo. On the second track Isola I noticed strong musicianship as well, but this time the piano attracts all the attention and another perfect guitar solo can be enjoyed.

Next is the first international act. Agents Of Mercy is a side project of guitarist Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings). Due to the lead vocals of Nad Sylvan some people compared the band to the early line-up of Genesis with Peter Gabriel. Well, I could mention all kinds of influences, but during the twenty minutes of footage I hardly noticed any influences of Genesis. The synthesizer and guitar solos on Journey had nothing to do with the old Genesis. Maybe Nad Sylvan tried to copy Gabriel's act at the end of Supper's Ready. Instead of holding a neon-light in his hand, he raised a sword up during The Fading Ghosts Of Twilight.

The band that looked most professional on stage is the German outfit RPWL. Three songs can be enjoyed during the 27 minutes they got on this DVD. All these tracks are accompanied by film projections at the back of the stage. The first two songs Sleep and Stranger are the most enjoyable, because these tunes feature strong guitar and synthesizer solos. The last track Roses is the usual encore. It's a rather simple and melodic composition to sing along with. RPWL ends this rather entertaining DVD. The makers of this release probably learned from the mistakes they made last year. This time all performing artists are much better filmed and it looks as if more cameras were used. The close-ups of the musicians are of a better quality as well and that also applies to the overall sound, which is just perfect for private use.

Compared to the last year's release, it's obvious that this DVD scores a higher rating. All was done more professionally and therefore I have to compliment those who were responsible for it. The previous DVD got a score of three stars, but this time four stars are appropriate. Maybe next year they get the highest score of five stars. Who knows!
