Un aereo atterra al John F. Kennedy International Airport con le luci spente e le porte sigillate. L'epidemiologo Ephraim Goodweather e la sua squadra vengono chiamati a investigare. A bordo dell'aereo trovano centinaia di morti e solo quattro sopravvissuti. La situazione peggiora quando i corpi cominciano a scomparire dagli obitori. Goodweather e un piccolo gruppo di volontari si ritrova a combattere per proteggere non solo i loro cari, ma la citt? intera, da un antico male che minaccia l'umanit?.

A plane lands at John F. Kennedy International Airport with the lights off and the doors sealed. CDC epidemiologist Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, Dr. Nora Martinez, and their team are sent to investigate. On board they find 206 corpses and four survivors. The situation deteriorates when all the bodies disappear from the morgue. Goodweather and a small group of helpers find themselves battling to protect not only their own loved ones, but the entire city, from an ancient threat to humanity.

Creata per Showtime da John Logan (scrittore de Il Gladiatore, The Aviator e gli ultimi film di 007: Skyfall e Spectre), ? ambientato nella Londra di fine XIX secolo, il perfetto scenario per le vicende di una serie che ?mischia? sapientemente personaggi di varie provenienze letterarie ? Frankestein, Dorian Grey, Van Helsing, per citarne qualcuno ? e li rende protagonisti in quello che si ? rivelato un capolavoro di originalit?.

Penny Dreadful era il nome dispregiativo che si dava a libretti e pubblicazioni a tema horror-splatter dell?epoca Vittoriana, di dubbio gusto e pessima qualit?, ma che riscuotevano un grande successo (un po? come i programmi di Maria De Filippi). Pescando per? nell?alta letteratura, da Bram Stoker a Oscar Wild, insieme ad un cast stellare, questo progetto televisivo non ha nulla da invidiare a una produzione cinematografica, e dir? di pi?: proprio perch? non amo il genere ? e di andare al cinema per assistere a due ore di urla, sangue e musica ansiogena non ne ho proprio voglia ? questo Serial Horror ? decisamente godibile e avvincente.

Penny Dreadful is a British-American horror drama television series created for Showtime and Sky by John Logan, who also acts as executive producer alongside Sam Mendes.
The show was originally pitched to several US and UK channels, and eventually landed with Showtime, with Sky Atlantic as co-producer. It premiered at the South by Southwest film festival on March 9 and began airing on television on April 28, 2014, on Showtime on Demand. The show premiered on Showtime on May 11, 2014, the first in an eight-episode season.
The title refers to the penny dreadfuls, a type of 19th-century cheap British fiction publication with lurid and sensational subject matter. The series draws upon many characters from 19th-century Irish and British fiction, including Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, Mina Harker and Abraham Van Helsing from Bram Stoker's Dracula, and Victor Frankenstein and his monster from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
On June 4, 2014, Showtime renewed Penny Dreadful for a ten-episode second season which premiered on May 3, 2015. The season two premiere was made available on April 19, 2015, via Showtime on Demand and YouTube.
On June 16, 2015, Showtime renewed Penny Dreadful for a nine-episode third season.

Il giorno dell'anniversario di nozze, l'agente immobiliare Jim Evers, sempre troppo preso dal lavoro, e sua moglie Sara ricevono una strana telefonata da un uomo chiamato Ramsley. Costui richiede che Sara si rechi al misterioso Maniero Gracey. Jim decide di accettare fiutando la possibilit? che il maniero si possa rivelare un grande investimento, ma per sedare le lamentele di Sara -arrabbiata per il fatto che Jim non sta mai con la famiglia e pensa solo al lavoro- decide di accettare per concedersi un "viaggio di famiglia", portando con loro anche i figli.
Una volta sul posto la famiglia Evers, mentre sta osservando la casa dall'esterno, arriva un inaspettato temporale.

Trama :

Fra il 2005 ed il 2015 il Regno Unito e gran parte del resto del mondo hanno attraversato una fase bellica ed un periodo socio-politico instabile, con proteste civili che sfociavano spesso in guerriglie urbane. Plot :

In the late 2020s the world is in turmoil, with the United States fractured as a result of prolonged conflict, and a pandemic of the "St. Mary's Virus" ravaging Europe. The United Kingdom is ruled as a fascist police state by the Norsefire Party. Political opponents, immigrants, Muslims, homosexuals and other "undesirables" are imprisoned in concentration camps. On November 4, a Guy Fawkes-masked vigilante who identifies himself as "V" rescues Evey Hammond, a woman who works at the state-run British Television Network (BTN), from an attempted rape by members of the "Fingermen" secret police while she is out past curfew. He leads her to a rooftop to watch his destruction of the Old Bailey criminal court building, accompanied by fireworks and the 1812 Overture. Inspector Finch, Scotland Yard's chief of police, is given the task of investigating V's activities, while the Party uses the BTN to declare the incident an "emergency demolition", although V takes over the broadcast to claim responsibility. He urges the people of Britain to rise up against their government...

Plot :

In 2079, CIA agent Snow is arrested for murdering undercover agent Frank Armstrong, who had uncovered evidence of another agent selling secrets about the space program. Secret Service director Scott Langral, on advice from the President, has Snow convicted of murder and espionage. Snow is sentenced to thirty years on the maximum security space penitentiary MS One, where prisoners are kept in stasis for the length of their sentence. Snow's friend and fellow agent Harry Shaw tries to locate Snow's contact Mace, who knows where Frank's briefcase containing the stolen secrets is hidden.

Meanwhile, the President's daughter Emilie arrives on MS One to investigate claims that keeping prisoners in stasis can cause them to develop mental instability. The warden allows her to interview Hydell, a deranged prisoner. He manages to escape and releases all of the prisoners, starting a riot led by his brother Alex. Emilie is shot, and is captured along with others. Shaw convinces Langral and the President to send Snow to rescue Emilie, rather than risk her life in a...
